Venus's battle MO is to hit quick and hard and then get away before any retaliation, so lightning/thunder for her. I picked my characters' ailment susceptibilities based on their bad habits/tendencies, so she got enervation because she can be shiftless and lazy.

Atticus has fire for his weakness because it was the one that most indicated raw destruction to me which Cam and I both somehow felt like fit his... healer... tendencies? I don't know why, it doesn't make a lot of sense in retrospect. His ailment is forget because he likes to ignore his problems!!!

And Merry is water because she's mutable and adaptive, and her weakness is Earth because she's prone to daydreaming and fantasizing and not at all down-to-earth. Her ailment is rage because she bottles up all her anger to be "nice" :) :) :)

funny thought tho: thunder is caused by lightning, fire needs air to burn, and plants need water to grow. Symbolism on hold until I've had my coffee tho
