Since I see the 'why aren't we all using guns?' question has come up IC, I'd just like to mention that Rin and I have discussed this some and we can make an answer available if people actually want to hear it. Since the characters would maybe know? The FAQ was just getting Very Long, so we didn't go into all the nitty gritty.
But also if you don't care, then...nm! ♥ I feel like a buzzkill all the time and I'm sorry.
dskjfdkls im sorry i assumed the answer was, as jj just text me, "not all shadows are weak to guns" rose is just a fucking idiot (she does Not Actually Care To Know IC dont worry)
hey for real please don't feel pressured to write this up aksljdalsk you should have been able to trust that we wouldn't bring up a known game-breaking question lmao i was being a bad dog bc i thought it was funny
Hey guys! Here's the Official answer that we'll be adding to the FAQ:
The students at Finchwood Academy use a variety of weapons to combat Shadows, from swords to brass knuckles to firearms. While logic would suggest that something like a gun should be almost universally more effective against these monsters than most other types of weapons, the otherworldly nature of Shadows undercuts this assumption. Shadows aren't part of the real world; they're reflections of the mind. Because of this, the physical weapon isn't what actually hurts Shadows. Instead, it's the will and the perception of the Persona-user wielding the weapon. This is why only Persona-users can fight Shadows, regardless of how well-armed a normal person might may be, and why the weapon that best suits any given Persona-user is their best tool when fighting a Shadow.
While some Persona-users need time to find the weapon that feels right, for many it's just an epiphany, either tied to their experience (ie - a student that's taken archery would naturally reach for a bow) or their perception of a given weapon. Those that struggled to pick a weapon may've been given one by Irene, who has a surprising insight for such things.
